A collision occurred between a Korean Air aircraft and a Cathay Pacific aircraft at New Chitose Airport in Hokkaido, Japan 🛩️💥. From the footage at the scene, the wing of the Korean Airplane broke after colliding with the tail of the Cathay Pacific aircraft ⚠️🆘.
In response, Cathay Pacific told a reporter from First Finance that at the time, their aircraft was parked at the gate with no passengers or crew on board. It was hit by a taxiing Korean Air A330 aircraft. As a result, Cathay Pacific’s CX583 flight from Sapporo to Hong Kong will not depart as scheduled. Most passengers on that flight will be accommodated on another Cathay Pacific flight returning to Hong Kong from Sapporo today, while the remaining passengers will depart tomorrow. Cathay Pacific apologized to the affected passengers 🙇🏻🙇🏼♀️.
Regarding the cause of the collision, Korean Air responded on its official Weibo account, stating that today’s KE766 flight from New Chitose Airport in Japan to Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, was involved in a scrape with the adjacent parking position after completing de-icing at the gate during the towing process under the traction of a ground service company’s tow truck. This was due to slippery ground conditions and improper operation of the tow truck ❄️‼️. The Korean Airplane had 13 crew members and 276 passengers on board, but fortunately, no injuries occurred 🙏🏻😮💨. After the incident, the company followed standard procedures to release delay information to passengers, communicated with airport authorities, and arranged for passengers to disembark, ensuring the proper placement of those affected.
This is not the first recent instance of two planes colliding at a Japanese airport. Just a few days ago, a Japan Airlines A350 aircraft collided with a Japan Coast Guard DHC-8 plane at Tokyo Airport. The incident resulted in the complete destruction of Japan Airlines’ A350 aircraft by fire 🔥🛩️. However, all 400 passengers on board were safely evacuated, while 5 people on the Japan Coast Guard plane lost their lives. Subsequently, the Japan Transport Safety Board investigated the collision at Tokyo Haneda Airport and found that before the accident, the air traffic controller at Tokyo Airport issued a “permission to enter the runway” to the Japan Airlines plane, while instructing the Coast Guard plane to “taxi to the runway front.” 📣
